Emissions Inspections

Utah requires all vehicles registered in Davis, Salt Lake, and Weber counties to receive an emissions inspection at a designated time depending on the vehicle model year.

• Vehicles less than six years old: Once every two years. 
• Vehicles less than two years old: Exempt
• Vehicles six years and older: Once every year

An emissions inspection can be scheduled when you are within two months of your registration renewal. Vehicles with even-numbered model years must test in even-numbered years, and vehicles with odd-numbered model years must test in odd-numbered years. 

State Inspections

The state safety inspection is required for vehicles with model years four, eight, and ten years old. Vehicles older than ten years must receive a safety inspection every year.

What if My Vehicle Fails the State Inspection?

In the event you fail the Utah state inspection, you may have your vehicle repaired by a person or place of your choice. SPS Tire Pros is available for automotive repairs in addition to inspections. If your vehicle is repaired with 15 days of failing the inspection, the original inspection center will recheck the vehicle at no cost to you.
